06 nights & 07 days
Best season: Mid-November to Mid-June

This tour takes you to the exciting adventures Himalayan foothills have to offer. Wildlife viewing at Corbett National Park along with thrilling white water rafting and yoga at Rishikesh, the picturesque Dehradun valley and the quaint hill station of Mussourie. A spiritual town on the banks of the holy river Ganga, Rishikesh is the abode of the ascetics since time immemorial. Famed for where the Beatles took to spirituality, Rishikesh is now known as the 'Yoga capital of the world'.
This tour begins with a beautiful long drive from Delhi to Corbett. Crossing fields of yellow mustard and sugarcane, small villages, bustling towns of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, you get a glimpse of the diversity India has to offer. Be it natural vistas, architecture, dressing or culture, it is a quick view of the everyday life of India's common man sitting in the comfort of your car. Chat with your knowledgeable driver and find out interesting insights into your observations. Before you know it, you'll already be at foothills of Himalayas for entry to the Corbett National Park.
Established in 1936, Jim Corbett National Park is the first wildlife reserve of India and also the first reserve to come under Project Tiger in 1973.
It was named in the honor of Jim Corbett, legendary hunter-turned- conservationist, best known for hunting man-eating tigers and leopards in the Kumaon and lower Garhwal in the 1920s. Within easy driving distance of Delhi (6 hrs), Corbett provides a great opportunity for viewing wildlife, especially the tiger in its natural habitat. The main wildlife animals found in the Corbett National Park include the Tiger, Elephant, Chital, Sambar, Nilgai, Gharial, King Cobra, Muntjac, Wild Boar, Hedgehog, Common Musk Shrew, Flying Fox, Indian Pangolin and nearly 600 species of birds.
Upon reaching Corbett, accompanied by an expert guide, the Jeep takes us through the stately dense Sal jungle of Corbett along the Ramganga River. We cross the river at Gethia Rao Bridge for the Kanda Range, where Jim Corbett shot the famous Kanda man-eater. We arrive at the main tourist complex, Dhikala where lunch awaits. You can visit one of the best wildlife libraries here. You can choose to enjoy an elephant ride (subject to availability and on direct payment) or an afternoon safari to sight the elusive tiger and other animals. In the evening one can watch a wildlife film show or just relax and enjoy the wilderness around you.
The accommodation in Dhikala is basic but comfortable, with en suite toilets and showers. The tour includes full board at Dhikala, where only vegetarian food is available and alcohol is not permitted. With early morning mist drifting over the river, it can be an exciting experience looking for tigers, wild elephants and other mammals and birds. Many of the birds we are likely to see are characteristic of the Himalayan region, with a good selection of Palaearctic rarities to set pulses racing. In the evening, we take you to comfortable cottages at Tiger Camp for dinner and overnight stay. The picturesque drive feels like a safari in itself.
The next day, after the morning safari, we travel to Rishikesh for two nights. We explore the spiritual holy town, temples, famous suspension bridges, yoga ashrams, various shops and eateries in the bazaar. In the evening witness the fascinating prayer and unforgettable sight of hundreds of floating candles on the holy banks of the Ganges River. Enjoy the overnight stay at a riverside hotel.
The morning starts with an invigorating yoga session. Then after Breakfast, you will be driven to the starting point for a thrilling session of white water rafting on river Ganga at Kaudiyala and picked up at the terminating point at Rishikesh.
Dehradun (a 3 hour drive) is our next destination. Glimpses of fields, villages and small towns make the journey very interesting to say the least. We arrive at Walterre-on-Touns, a beautiful cottage with old world charm in the Doon valley. A perfect base to explore Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand known for its basmati rice, lychees, educational and research institutes and the adopted home of writer Ruskin Bond.
Explore the genteel town known for famous bakery rusks, stickjaws and plum cakes. Visit the forest Research Institute estate with its Botanical gardens and museums. The Tibetan Buddhist Centre like the Mindrolling Monastery is also worth a visit.
From Dehradun, visiting Mussoorie for a day excursion is a must do. This quaint hill town was called the 'Queen of the hills'. Set up by British officers to escape the heat of the plains it still is a popular summer holiday destination. It gets its name from Mansur (Cororiana nepalensis), an herb that grows in the Himalayan foothills. Explore the shops and eateries for lunch on your own on the Mall road. Take a cable car ride up Gun Hill for fantastic panoramic views. View the sunset at Camel's back road.
Come back to the serenity and comfort of the Walterre Lodge for dinner and overnight stay. The last day is spent travelling to Delhi (6-7 hr drive) where the tour ends.
