Sightseeing- Cellular Jail, Anthropological Museum, Fisheries, Saw Mill
Andaman and Nicobar Islands were completely isolated and inhabited by ingenious tribals for 20,000 years. Civilization reached there only in the 19th and 20th century when British Government established the Penal Colony there (Kalapani), started using its natural resources and village settlements began. Even now, one-third of Andaman Islands and all of Nicobar is a tribal reserve.
The trip begins with your arrival at Port Blair airport from Chennai / Kolkata. Port Blair is your entry to the emerald islands. Idyllic tropical island with pristine turquoise seas, Andaman is all about relaxing on the unspoilt beaches, snorkeling, diving and seafood. The warm, clear seawater and sunshine invites you to just lie by the sea, relaxing, reading a book, enjoying a cocktail or coconut water and watching the sunset over the horizon.
For those fond of history and architecture, we can take you to witness an iconic structure of the imperial times. The Cellular Jail is also known as 'Kala Pani'. 'A walk through history books' is what best describes the jail. Completed in 1906 with 698 cells, it was built with seven wings spreading out like a seven-petal flower. There are numerous incidents and events associated with India's freedom struggle that will take you back in time as you take a tour of the jail. A treat awaits you, as an hour-long stunning Light and Sound show at the Cellular jail where the heroic saga of the Indian freedom struggle is brought to life.
The must visit island is the Havelock Island where we will spend 3 nights. A paradise for snorkellers and scuba divers, the seacoast along Havelock has an abundance of coral and marine life. Diving sites like Seduction Point, Pilot Reef, Mac Point, Minerva Ledge and Turtle Bay are very popular. Lighthouse is suitable even for dives at night. Aquarium and Elephant beach have shallow coral, ideal for snorkeling. Both these sites have to be reached by boat. You can watch through the glass bottom boat or opt for snorkelling for an up close and personal encounter of the sea creatures. If interested, you can try the two licensed diving clubs for learning scuba diving at your own cost.
The beauty of this island is not limited only to the seacoast, you can spend the day taking long walks amidst paddy fields, coconut and banana groves too. Boat rides into the sea are also a great option for those more inclined to relax and enjoy the pristine natural beauty of this heavenly place.
On the last day, we take the ferry back to Port Blair. Your guide and driver will take you for a tour of Port Blair city, which covers the Anthropological Museum showcasing the tribes of Andaman, the Fisheries museum and the Chatham Saw mill. Chatham Saw mill is considered to be the oldest sawmill in Asia.
Next morning we drop you to Port Blair airport for return flight to Chennai or Kolkata where the tour ends.
