he Northeastern states of India are relatively still undiscovered as far as tourism goes. Our guided tour is an excellent opportunity to explore the birds in the area and get a glimpse of India’s diversity. Kaziranga is popularly known as the home of the “Big Five” – the Elephant, Rhinoceros, Wild Buffalo, Tiger and Swamp Deer. A total of 52 mammalian species has been recorded in the Park itself and include such rarities like Gangetic Dolphin, Chinese Pangolin, Hoolock Gibbon, Hog-Badger and Flying Squirrel. 39 reptiles make the list and include the endangered
Gharial and the rare Assam Roofed Turtle. Both the Reticulated and Rock Pythons occur in the area. Nameri Wildlife Sanctuary is in the foothills of the Eastern Himalaya which is one of the richest and most threatened reservoirs of plant and animal life in the world. The area is crisscrossed by the river Jia- Bhoroli and its tributaries. A few ponds also dot the area. The inaccessibility and continuity with the neighbouring forest areas have helped the wildlife of
Nameri to flourish. There is a good prey base in the form of Sambar, Barking deer, Hog Deer, Wild Boar and Gaur.
Nameri and Sonai-Rupai are only Protected Areas in the North Bank of the Brahmaputra in the Civil District of Sonitpur. Next, we take you to Eagle’s Nest and Sangti Valley through the lush lowland evergreen forests of Pakke Tiger Reserve (alt. 100-300m), adjacent to the grasslands and riverine woodland of the Brahmaputra valley, through the sub-tropical and temperate forests of Eaglenest (alt. 500-3500m), to the breathtaking views of permanent snow above the alpine meadows of Sela ridge at 4500m.
